On Friday 18 June, 2010, Richard Coe organised a Mufti Day and lunch at the 3663 Head Office in Kingsmead, High Wycombe. He collected £250.59 which was a great effort.

Notice is hereby given that the Annual General Meeting of the Valerie Taylor Trust will take place on Saturday 22nd May, 2010 at St. Paul’s Church Centre, 5, Rossmore Road, Marylebone, London, NW1 6NJ. Doors will be open from 2.00 pm and the meeting will start promptly at 2.30 pm.

On 25th April 2010, Susie Ivin will be running the Virgin London Marathon to raise funds for VTT. Susie is the daughter of Janet Ivin, a nine time CRP volunteer!

Here’s what Susie has to say about her Mum and CRP -
“My Mum (Janet Ivin) has been undertaking voluntary work every year (apart from one) since October 2000 and will be making her ninth visit to CRP in February this year. I was able to visit Mum at CRP during her visit last year whilst I was on a working flight to Dhaka. This was my second visit and I was impressed by all that I saw. Unfortunately BA no longer fly to Dhaka, so sadly Mum will not be able to take advantage of any more hugely discounted stand-by tickets!!”

Running the original Marathon route in Greece….

On 8th November 2009, Denis Ignatjev and Graeme Whitty will run the original Marathon route in Greece (link) to help support the 30th anniversary of CRP. Funds contribute to treatment costs of poor patients at the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

In 2007 Graeme had the opportunity to meet with CRP founder, Valerie Taylor who has dedicated her career to the care, treatment and rehabilitation of the paralysed. Valerie is decorated with numerous awards; amongst many is O.B.E. (Order of the British Empire for her outstanding efforts providing holistic treatment for the paralysed) and also the “Shadhinota Dibosh Podok” the highest civilian award of Bangladesh.

During that trip Graeme had the opportunity to visit the CRP and witness the magnificent work undertaken by Valerie and the CRP overall.

Denis and Graeme like a challenge and in the summer of 2008 climbed the highest mountain in Europe raising money for CRP in the process (link). As we all know what goes up must come down so this time they are focusing on a ground challenge. Please help us raise funds for this most deserving of charitable causes.

Valerie Taylor wins Ahsanullah Gold Medal

Valerie Ann Taylor, founder of the Centre for Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP), has been selected for the prestigious Khan Bahadur Ahsanullah Gold Medal Award-2008 in recognition of her outstanding contribution and services to society as well as the distressed humanity, says a press release.

A favourite name in Bangladesh as a saviour of the paralysed as well as distressed people, Taylor spread her noble activities across the country by establishing a service organisation like CRP.

Born in Kent in the United Kingdom, Valerie came to Bangladesh as a physiotherapist in 1969 as a member of Voluntary Service Overseas, an international organisation. She got the citizenship of Bangladesh in 1998.

Sky diving for CRP

Jessica Heslop is going to tandem Skydive in New Zealand in December to raise money for the Valerie Taylor Trust. All funds raised will go to the Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in Bangladesh.

The following text is from an amended e-mail from Md. Emdad Moslem (Executive Director of CRP) which Valerie has forwarded to us.

“My Dear Valerie,
I am delighted to receive such a wonderful and inspiring mail from you and from VTT. I strongly feel to let you all know my deepest commitment to do my best for our beloved organisation CRP along with the patients and ofcourse for/with our colleagues, Volunteers, FCRP and well wishers in and out side the country. I will put my all out efforts to work together to the betterment of our services for the people who really deserves from CRP.

Thanks once more for the supports that you all have been extending in discharging my responsibilities as a whole through out last 9 months and so on.

I look forward that we all together set out our goal as a reality of common endeavor towards ensuring excellence of our services in the coming days.

Orion Primary School raises £570 for VTT

The Valerie Taylor Trust would like to thank Orion Primary School for donating £570.00 to the trust.

These funds were raised throughout the academic year by holding the following events:

A Christmas art, craft and cake sale, with all items made by the Year 2 classes.

A toy sale in the playground.

A sponsored whole school exercise and fitness event, in which all children were sponsored to complete a range of physical exercise and got to meet Olympic athlete Larry Achike.

A Bollywood dance performance at end of year open-air concert extravaganza!

Catherine Hall, Valerie Taylor Trust Secretary, attended the end of year concert to receive the “Charity Cheque” from the children on behalf of the trust.

Orion Primary School has proved that arranging fundraising events can work well across various age ranges and group sizes. Their contibution will help the Valerie Taylor Trust to acheive our goal of contributing funds to the treatment, rehabilitation and reintegration into the community of disabled people in Bangladesh.
